Bhate provided a design for the central monitoring and control for a base-wide Energy Management Control System (EMCS). The design included remote monitoring and control of 12 base buildings. The central monitoring and control EMCS was designed to be readily expandable to provide for future remote monitoring and control of approximately 130 base buildings.
The design was based on industry standard protocol, LonWorks™, and specific conformance to the LONMARK™ Interoperability Association’s Physical and Logical Layer Guidelines in all unitary, terminal units and other devices. The design process included an evaluation of various system communications technologies including but not limited to Ethernet, RF, fiber optics and telephone. The system design was focused so that the EMCS implementation achieved maximum energy savings while minimizing any impact on the quality-of-life for base personnel. The design included all sensors, metering, control/analysis hardware and software, interfacing and supervisory control.
