Fuels Project Superintendent – Birmingham, AL (Nationwide travel)

Bhate is seeking experienced Fuels Project Superintendents to join our Fuels Team.  The successful candidate will report to the Project Manager and will be responsible for all technical and site execution aspects of the project as well as general on-site craft supervision, site project quality, site safety, subcontractor coordination and quality control.  The Site Superintendent is also responsible for maintaining project expectations, all site quality and safety reporting and procedures; daily reports, task execution within the project scope, schedule and budget, and quality; and conformance to the project plans and specifications.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Ability to determine, coordinate and manage site resources, including self-performing craft and subcontractor personnel, to manage and maintain the project schedule, budget, safety and overall quality.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee all day-to-day field activities and ensure the timely and efficient execution of field work. Complete and distribute daily reports.
  • Effectively work and communicate with the Project Manager and site team to ensure all construction is in compliance with plans and specifications and maintain execution and control of progress, scope, budget, potential change conditions and overall project quality.  Ability to comprehend construction contract documents and details.
  • Control and document all material and equipment deliveries, acceptance and storage.
  • Ensure strict adherence to Company timekeeping and recordkeeping policies.
  • Manage the Scope-of-Work (SOW) by early identification of change conditions and be instrumental in adhering to the execution plan for the project.
  • Work with health and safety and quality control personnel to ensure a safe working environment while also overseeing a strict quality control program.
  • Inspect the quality of work for compliance with design standard and ensure corrective action occurs if/when necessary.
  • Serve as the primary client contact for all project field activities.
  • Execute daily reviews of the design details with craft and subcontractors to ensure work is in full compliance the execution plan.
  • Establish credibility with the client, subcontractors, vendors, site personnel and other stakeholders by ensuring a fair and trustworthy work environment.
  • Travel requirements are 50-100% annually.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Candidate must have a minimum of seven (7) years of construction related management experience including three (3) years of field experience with repairs to DoD POL facilities or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with EM-385 and OSHA compliant programs.  Site Health and Safety Officer Certification is a plus.  First aid/CPR, 10-Hour and 30-Hour OSHA safety class, 40-Hour HAZWOPER, Confined Space training and Competent Person training preferred.
  • USACE CQM certification preferred or ability to obtain.
  • Detail orientated, solid computer skills and proficient with MS Office programs, including MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Outlook.  Ability to extract two or three week look-ahead schedules from CPM Project Schedules.
  • Candidate must have a thorough knowledge of (nondestructive examination) NDE techniques.
  • Familiarity with API-650, API-653, UFC-460, UFGS, DoD SW 78-24-27 guidelines, and NDE techniques.
  • Knowledge of and experience with USACE Three Phase Quality Control Process.
  • Ability to obtain or possess a security clearance and ability to pass background checks for base access.
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated proficiency in both oral and written communication.

To be successful in this role, you will need a solid, multi-discipline general construction background and associated skills and abilities, as well as at least 5 years of experience in a Superintendent capacity with a mid-sized General Contractor.  Military base construction background and/or security clearances are a plus.  This position will be the on-site point of contact for all sub-contractors, responsible for ensuring project safety, quality, scheduling, and budget.

Construction Project Manager – Birmingham, Alabama

Bhate is seeking to fill a position for a Construction Project Manager. The Project Manager will report to the Director of Construction.  The position will require project management responsibilities including project financial management, schedule management, quality control, etc. for mostly Government related projects. There may some estimating functions that will be required in order to supplement the estimating staff during peak times.  The position also requires best business management practices and must demonstrate leadership, organizational and time management skills.  Although the position is located in Birmingham, Alabama, frequent travel to various projects, including international travel at times will be required.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Quality Control management including submittal management and coordinating with the Quality Control Manager confirming proper installation of required materials.
  • Coordination with the Superintendent to facilitate the overall project requirements and schedule.
  • Schedule management utilizing Microsoft Project and/or Primavera P6 Scheduling, as well as schedule development and project scheduling updates.
  • Coordination and communication with senior level representatives including the client (Government).
  • Manage the buy-out process to include and understand scope reviews, contract terms with subcontractors and vendors, preparation of subcontracts, purchase orders, and procurement of all executed agreements.
  • Manage Job Hazard Analysis from Subcontractors, and other required contract documents, which includes an understanding of proper insurance.
  • Manage the financial and contractual aspects of the projects assigned to ensure all commitments are made to the client, and financial expectations of the project are achieved.
  • Manage all changes including distribution of documents, estimating to ensure accurate sub and vendor pricing, and presentation of pricing to the client.
  • Actively and regularly plan and look for possible conflicts or problems on a job, and take measures to avoid them. When problems do arise, work with the project team to produce solutions to resolve the problem, and execute the solution.
  • Lead regularly scheduled project meetings with the client and design team to report progress of the project. Communicate key issues of the project, and hold the team accountable for any information required by the client.
  • Estimating responsibilities may require bid solicitation, proposal writing, trade scoping, quantity takeoff, etc.
  • Effective communication with the client, project team members, teaming partners, subcontractors, etc. will be required.
  • Knowledge in estimating software and project management software such as Timberline and Prolog is preferred.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Building Science, or similar field preferred.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years construction management, general contracting, or similar experience required. Construction experience in Government contracts is recommended.

Wastewater/Stormwater Environmental Specialist   – Joint Base Andrews, Maryland

The Wastewater/Stormwater (WW/SW) Environmental Specialist will be responsible for performing visual monitoring of stormwater outfalls, stormwater compliance evaluations, and wastewater sampling at Joint Base Andrews.  Specifically, the Specialist will perform quarterly visual monitoring of stormwater outfalls during qualifying rain events; monitor and maintain stormwater event data for each quarter, including hourly and daily precipitation data; complete the SW inspection forms, review SW inspection forms completed by others, and submit the inspection forms to appropriate personnel within 5 days of the completion of the stormwater event.  The Specialist will conduct quarterly Comprehensive Site Compliance Evaluations (CSCEs) of Base facilities in accordance with the Joint Base Andrews Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan, Stormwater Management Plan, and Contract documents.  The Specialist will perform the quarterly wastewater sampling in accordance with Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) Discharge Authorization Permit and Contract documents.  The Specialist will maintain the automatic samplers with the assistance of a maintenance contract. The Specialist will coordinate laboratory analyses of wastewater, analyses, and prepare wastewater reports for each wastewater sampling event.
